A collection of paintings by renowned Chinese artist Liu Danzhai, which were originally commissioned to appear on postage stamps and philatelic commemoratives. Liu Danzhai (1931–2011) was born in Wenzhou, Zhekiang Province, in China, and as a child developed a talent for drawing. At age ten, his works were already being exhibited, building his reputation as a child prodigy. His unique style was influenced by the Chinese painting tradition -- the elegance of the figure paintings of the Han and Tang dynasties, the natural landscapes of the Song and Yuan dynasties, the simplicity and compactness of the Ming Dynasty and the gracefulness of the flower and bird paintings of the Qing Dynasty.
