The second largest country in South America, Argentina occupies most of the southern part of the continent between the Andes mountains and the Atlantic Ocean. Argentina is a rugged and beautiful country extending from her towering Andes Mountains in the west to her exotic sun-drenched beaches in the east. The country contains the breathtaking Iguassu Falls, and the famous Christ of the Andes statue on the border of Chile and Argentina. In the southern part of the country lies the sub-antarctic Patagonia -- a very large and dry windswept plateau that contains some of the world's most unique animals, including penguins, sea lions and elephant seals. Argentina's largest city and capital, Buenos Aires, holds nearly half of her total population. Argentines are a blend of many European nationalities, although Spanish and Italians are dominant.
