Modern commercial and recreational fishing boats are a common sight in the fish-laden waters around the Marshall Islands. The traditional Malmel outrigger sailing canoe is perhaps the single most important symbol of the Pacific and its islands. Each finished craft is put to sea amidst dancing and ceremonies.
